I’m a passionate developer who started writing code in 2013. I care about writing high quality software. I don’t use AI for anything, everything is written by hand the “old-fashioned” way. I would much rather take the time to fully understand the problem space around the code I’m writing, since I find it to be more efficient in the long term. I’m not particularly bothered about what tools/languages I’m using. I just tend to pick whatever makes the most sense for what I’m trying to make.

Besides writing code, I’ve played the piano since the age of 5 and occasionally write my own music. I especially have an interest in Jazz theory. Even though Jazz is my main focus when playing/writing music, the genres I enjoy listening to are vast. I like to talk about and share music with others and have been building up a collection of physical media (especially CDs) since ~2017.

I’ve also been playing games for a large proportion of my life, but I tend to prefer older titles (pre-2015). There are some newer titles I’m fine with, but they tend to be indie games. To provide some examples of games I’ve enjoyed:

  • The Tomb Raider games (especially Anniversary and Legend)
  • The Lego games (especially Star Wars The Complete Saga)
  • Little Big Planet 1 + 2 (holds a special place in my heart, and definitely impacted my music taste)
  • WRC4 (my childhood racing game from back when the PS2 was the latest thing)
  • DiRT Rally 1 + 2
  • Minecraft
  • Vintage Story
  • Tunnet
  • Lorn’s Lure
  • The Zacthronics games
  • Peaks of Yore (of course)

Besides these previous points, I go through various phases. I’ve had previous interests in law, finance, economics, business/marketing, geology, chemistry, electronics, right to repair, older protocols and technology. At the moment, my main interest is around the finances behind the ongoing AI bubble and the current and potential consequences, particularly with the enormous quantity of financial and compute resources behind it.

When it comes to work, I’ve previously been a system administrator and since 2023 have been self employed. I’ve done software development, web development, system administration (particularly with Linux, which I’ve used since early 2019). I can work with databases (especially PostgreSQL and SQLite, but also MySQL/MariaDB and MS SQL Server to an extent). I have also built, refurbished, and upgraded a variety of computers.

I’m currently one of the administrators for the official Peaks of Yore community and previously verified Peaks of Yore runs on speedrun.com. I’m still working on mods (both old and new) occasionally as life permits. Sometimes I may upload a new speedrun, but this has become less common over time as my interest has shifted more into modding and providing support to the members of the Peaks of Yore community as needed.

I’m approachable and always open to talking about a broad range of topics.
